In Monet's footstep Itinerary from Paris

In the middle of the 19th century, young painters begin to paint outdoor and capture lights. They focus on landscapes and everyday life.
One of the masters in this field was Claude Monet. On the elan of Eugene Boudin, with Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, Cezanne, and Manet, they formed a movement that will be called the impressionists because of the canvas of Monet, Impression sunrise.
This painting, like many of his works, was painted in Normandy in Le Havre.
It is this trip to the country of Monet that we propose to take you accompanied by a professional driver-guide and an experienced bilingual English driver-guide. (other languages on request or with a guide in supplement)

 

Day 1

Stop in Giverny

Departure from your hotel in Paris or Roissy.

Visit the Monet's garden

Visit his house of Giverny, where he lived all the end of his life. He was also passionate about the garden and the colors and composed a garden that inspired his paintings on Nympheas ( waterlilies).

Giverny Museum of Impressionism

In 2009, a partnership between the Terra Foundation for American Art, the Conseil départemental de l'Eure, the Conseil départemental de la Seine-Maritime, the Haute-Normandie region, the Communauté de communes de Vernon and the Ville de Vernon, as well as the Musée d'Orsay, created the Giverny Impressionism Museum, which replaces the Giverny American Art Museum. This new museum aims to study the history of Impressionism and its aftermath, as well as its more distant consequences in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century.

Each year, two different exhibits take place.

In 2020, from Corot to Monet retraces the history of painting on the outside before the current named "impressionist".

Rouen with the famous cathedral of Notre Dame de Rouen, which he painted 40 times.
You will be able to walk through the medieval streets with houses made of wood panels and see where Joan of Arc was burned on the stake.

Day 2

Honfleur - Le Havre - Etretat

After an early morning visit to Rouen, departure for the old port of Honfleur. Invited by Eugene Boudin, he spent a long time at the Saint Simeon farm. He was as you will undoubtedly be fascinated by the changing reflections and his authentic houses built between the 15th and 18th centuries
You can also find inspiration from young painters with 80 galleries distributed throughout the city. You will admire the exceptional wooden vault of the church of Saint Catherine de Honfleur.

In the late afternoon, a visit to the city of Le Havre or with Monet during his youth. It is there that he met Eugene Boudin, who introduced him to painting in the open air and especially made him aware of the changing light.
The city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because the town was destroyed during the beaches landing in 1944. It was rebuilt by Auguste Perret, the Master of Le Corbusier.

Before returning, a small visit to sunset on the cliffs of Etretat subject of many paintings of Monet.

Les planches de Deauville -trouville

A short trip along"la côte Fleurie"to arrive in Deauville before going to Caen.

If you are interested, possibility to stop over at a Calvados farm. The chateau de Breuil offers a beautiful place to introduce you to the preferred drinks of Normands.

 

Caen

Every year Caen organizes an exhibition around impressionism.
In 2020, he ardent city: three sections (landscape, people, social history) emphasize the attention paid by open-air painters to the economic, political, and social transformations of their era, from memories of the events of the Paris Commune to the eve of the First World War.

Visit the exhibit 

If this is your first trip to Normandy, you can go to the Colleville American cemetery and/or visit the memorial of Caen before returning to Paris.
